This is a real story, shared by a participant of the BeSophro Menopause Programme, although we’ve changed the name at her request.
In the midst of caregiving, parenting, and the unrelenting pace of everyday life, Catrina, now in her early fifties, began to feel her body pulling her in a different direction.
“It started with a sense of tiredness that didn’t go away. Not just the kind you sleep off, but something deeper, like my body was asking me to stop and listen.”
When the body speaks up
Catrina was no stranger to sacrifice. As a full-time caregiver and devoted parent, she had long placed others’ needs above her own. But when menopause symptoms hit—low mood, unpredictable energy crashes, and physical pain—it became impossible to ignore her own wellbeing.
“Mentally, I just didn’t feel like myself anymore. And physically, everything was louder – pain, fatigue, even the silence.”
Unlock Your Menopause Power
Is your menopause overwhelming you?
Unlock Your Menopause Power is a five-week journey designed by women, for women — to support your body and mind through the changes of perimenopause and menopause.
Discovering Sophrology
She first discovered Sophrology in an article, and something about it resonated with her. Keen to explore further, she bought Dominique’s book, The Life-Changing Power of Sophrology, and began trying the exercises. That early experience stayed with her -quiet, but impactful.
So, when she later came across the BeSophro: Unlock Your Menopause Power programme, it felt like a natural progression. The structure of the programme appealed to her – a guided, grounded way to deepen the practice she had already begun.
“The mix of techniques and the space for reflection made me want to give it a go,” she says.
Already aware of Sophrology’s potential, Catrina was hopeful the programme could offer some relief from the way menopause had been making her feel.
A structured approach she could lean on
What drew Catrina to the programme wasn’t just the practice, it was the thoughtful structure. The way movement, breathing, and visualisation were blended with moments of quiet reflection gave her a rare sense of balance.
“I liked the way the sessions were put together. They gave me the tools to become more aware, not just of how I was feeling, but of how I could respond to it.”
She practised a few times a week, whenever she could carve out the time. It wasn’t always easy to stay consistent – her days were full, and caring for others often left little time for herself. But when she did show up for a session, the impact was immediate.
“Even if I only practised now and then, I noticed more peace. I felt calmer. I could be in the moment a little more.”
Catrina says
Even when Menopause symptoms were still challenging, Sophrology gave me more space and calm.

Gently shifting gears
After a couple of weeks, Catrina began to feel something shifting inside. It wasn’t that her symptoms disappeared, but her relationship to them softened. There was a resignation, in the best sense of the word – a quiet acceptance, rather than constant resistance.
“I had more awareness of my body. More peace in my mind. I could let go of fighting things.”
This sense of calm created space for something else: confidence.
“It wasn’t the bold, external kind of confidence, but a quiet self-belief that comes from tuning into your own needs. It was such a relief to feel more like myself again,” she says.
A moment of quiet
Catrina doesn’t sugar-coat the challenges of this stage in life- and she doesn’t pretend that a few sessions can solve everything. But what she does know is that taking time to slow down, breathe, and listen to her body helped her feel less lost.
When asked if she’d recommend Sophrology, her answer is a simple yes.
“It’s low-threshold, and honestly, it doesn’t take much time to start feeling something shift. A sense of relief, of coming back to yourself.”
Because sometimes, just a moment of quiet is enough.
