We’re delighted to share that BeSophro and its founder Dominique Antiglio have been featured in Sustain Health, in an article by Nicola Elliott exploring why stress can make it difficult to fall asleep even when we feel physically exhausted.

The feature, “Exhausted but Wide Awake? Why Stress Could Be Keeping You Up at Night,” looks at the relationship between daytime stress, an overactive mind and disrupted sleep, highlighting how the pressure we place on ourselves to sleep can sometimes make the situation worse.

As Dominique explains:

“Many people respond to poor sleep by trying harder: earlier nights, stricter routines, more pressure to switch off. But when the nervous system is still on alert, effort adds to the pressure. Sophrology works by helping the body and mind move out of the state, so that sleep can come more naturally.”

The article explores how stress and poor sleep can reinforce one another. A stressful day may make it harder to unwind at night, while insufficient rest can leave us feeling less equipped to cope with the following day’s demands.

Rather than approaching sleep as another task to accomplish, Dominique encourages a different perspective: creating the conditions for the body and mind to settle.

Through breathing techniques, gentle movement, relaxation and visualisation, Sophrology offers practical ways to reconnect with the body, become more aware of accumulated tension and support relaxation.

The feature also introduces BeSophro’s free four-day Sleep Well Challenge, taking place from 9 to 12 November 2026, with guided sessions exploring different aspects of sleep and wellbeing.

Why this matters to you

Feeling exhausted doesn’t always mean feeling ready for sleep. Physical tiredness and mental alertness can coexist, particularly after a stressful day. Recognising this distinction can help you approach bedtime differently.

Trying harder to sleep can create more pressure. Strict routines and an intense focus on falling asleep may become counterproductive when they increase worry or frustration.

Your daytime stress matters. Sleep difficulties are not always just about bedtime. Becoming more aware of stress and tension throughout the day can be an important part of supporting better rest.

Sophrology offers a gentle mind-body approach. Breathing, relaxation, movement and visualisation can help you create moments of calm and reconnect with your body’s signals.

You can explore these practices for free. BeSophro’s Sleep Well Challenge offers four days of guided Sophrology sessions to help you discover practical ways to support your sleep and wellbeing.
